The audit report filed by the Chamber of Accounts back in 2015 shows that TRT does not possess a proper financial structure to stay an impartial broadcasting outlet.
CHP Istanbul Deputy Barış Yarkadaş who have commented on the subject said “TRT has turned into a swamp. Auditors from Chamber of Accounts have reported that there was a public deficit of 146 million 972 thousand TL’s only in 2015 alone. Within the same report, it was noted ‘When the expenditures for TV programs are taken into consideration, TRT, appearing as a foundation that uses publics sources to buy international content, should direct its’ focus on creating content with their own means”
CHP’s Yarkadaş said:
“Chamber of Accounts has confirmed that 1 billion 522 million TL of TRT’s (a foundation that acts like the governments’ official media outlet) income was made directly through the public. The overall incomes’ 843 million TL is made through “electric energy revenue shares” and 679 million TL is made through “banderole” revenues. This is an immense amount of money. It is absurd that a foundation with such high income is making a loss. Think of it, you have a 1.5 billion TL income and you are still making a loss. You are spending astronomical amounts of money to TV programs and shows that doesn’t even prove to have decent ratings. The amount of money spent on international content is also ridiculous. TRT has spent 1.1 billion TL’s entirely on international content. People who are responsible of these actions should immediately be dismissed.”
245.9 million TL’s were spent on TV Series
Yarkadaş who indicated that TRT has around 8 thousand employees, continued by saying:
“Think of a foundation with 8 thousand employees as well as vast amounts of technical equipment and means available to them. They can possibly put together anything with the large number of employees and equipments. Nevertheless, the foundation relentlessly spends money on international content. They waste the money they make through the public on random things. Check out the amounts of money invested in the TV shows they air and the shows’ ratings…
The situation that TRT was dragged into seems dire. It is sad to see a governmental foundation in this situation. Never has TRT ever found itself in such a desperate situation. It has blatantly become the current governments broadcasting device. We will observe this to be true to a greater extent throughout the referendum phase that awaits us. We will see how much of the current governments’ and presidents’ campaign they will air compared to the campaigns of the opposition parties.”
