Yarkadaş: “The destiny of the journalists that were victimized by FETÖ doesn’t change.”
CHP Istanbul Deputy Barış Yarkadaş said “Yesterday, FETÖ-AKP alliance was arresting journalists. Today, AKP has taken over that duty. Nothing has changed for the journalists.”
CHP Istanbul Deputies Barış Yarkadaş and Sezgin Tanrıkulu accompanied a number of journalists who gathered in front of the Çağlayan Courthouse for the ODA TV trial.
CHP Media Commission Member Barış Yarkadaş has made comments through his social media account following the statements of the journalists. Yarkadaş said “Yesterday, Ahmet Şık was arrested by the FETÖ-AKP alliance. Today, there is no FETÖ but there is AKP. Ahmet is still in prison… The harsh conditions for journalists still remain.”
Yarkadaş who stated that he has been following the ODA TV trials, in which Ahmet Şık was also tried, since day one, said “I was in front of the courthouse when Ahmet Şık was arrested. Today, I am in front of the courthouse once again. Journalists are in prison when they should be at their news bureaus.”
Yarkadaş who argued that ODA TV trial is seen as a “frame” these days, said:
“The people who are framing journalists have changed. AKP has taken over the duty from FETÖ. More than 150 journalists are being sent to prison over nonsensical reasons. Turkey has been converted into a country where freedom of expression is considered a crime. Many journalists are being kept in prison as referendum hostages. They are being kept in prison so that they can’t speak or write, and so that their imprisonment intimidates the public.
ODA TV trial is one of these trials to intimidate the public…The framing that FETÖ set up together with AKP still exists. The framing still exists as the trial is still going on. This nonsense should end, the journalists, including Ahmet Şık, should be released and these cases should be immediately closed.”
