CHP Istanbul Deputy Barış Yarkadaş has shared AKP District Election Board’s request with the journalists. AKP doesn’t want individuals from CHP or HDP who have ongoing prosecutions or investigations to be able to watch over the ballot boxes, according to this request.
He asked for votes while visiting the marketplace
CHP Deputy Barış Yarkadaş who is continuing his referendum field campaign in Beykoz, has visited Yeni Mahalle marketplace. Yarkadaş, while handing out NO brochures to the public, has asked for their support, along with District Head Mahir Taştan and a large group of CHP proponents.
“Plotting still continues”
After spending almost four hours campaigning in Yeni Mahalle, Yarkadaş responded to the questions; he indicated that AKP is trying every possible way to push the opponents out of this race.
It’s a document of shame
Yarkadaş showing AKP Güngören District Directorate’s application to District Election Board, said “We are witnessing a disgraceful page in our democracy’s history.”
CHP’s Yarkadaş said:
“AKP Güngören District Directorate appeals to the District Election Board with their own corporate identity. Within this appeal they make a scandalous request. They request that CHP or HDP members, who would be on duty on the 16th of April, to be reviewed based on whether they have an ongoing prosecution of investigation. If in case CHP and HDP members would have an ongoing prosecutions or investigation, they want to prevent those individuals from watching over the ballot box.”
“How dare you?!”
Yarkadaş who stated that this appeal by AKP is “absolutely vile”, has reacted “How dare you?! What is this immorality?! How do you find the right in yourself to make such request?”
Yarkadaş who argued that AKP government is seeing every opponent as a “potential criminal”, has continued with the words:
“Let’s say there is an ongoing investigation for a CHP member. According to our laws, there isn’t provision that bans that individual from having duties at the ballot box! A person with an ongoing prosecution or investigation, wouldn’t mean that he is a criminal. AKP is absolutely rendering the presumption of innocence principle meaningless and asking something from the judiciary that they can’t possibly enforce.”
Yarkadaş pointed out that his belief is that District Election Board is not going to respond positively to this unlawful request, and added “If AKP could get this unreasonable request through, they will assume this instance as a precedent to assert dominance over the ballot box.”
“They got in a quandary”
Yarkadaş stated that his belief is that judges will reject this unreasonable and unlawful request, and said:
“AKP sees itself as the ruler of everything. That’s why they would dare to do such things. They are also craven as much as they are daring…They got in a quandary since they see that NO will prevail at the ballot box… Don’t get shocked if they appeal to the Supreme Election Council soon and say ‘The NO voters are terrorists, prohibit them from voting’. The ones who want to prevent people with ongoing investigations from performing duties at the ballot box, might also consult to harsher measures. Regardless of what they do, they can’t avert NO’s victory. The public has made up its’ mind… They can’t change the public’s opinion by plotting against them, or by by-passing the law.”
CHP has objected
CHP’s Yarkadaş has added that CHP District Head Alaettin Aktay had already objected to the request AKP made to Güngören District Election Board. Yarkadaş said, “Our district head is closely monitoring the process.”
