CHP Istanbul Deputy Barış Yarkadaş said “The people with the mindset to not leave even a square meter of green land in Istanbul, have attacked the public who wanted to protect their children’s playground with tasers and dogs.”
They attacked the owners
A company wanted to build a tower in Ümraniye Ihlamurkuyu District’s Avangarden complex built by SİNPAŞ; the public that wanted to preserve the “green land” was attacked by the employees of the company.
The tension has risen between the residents and the company officials, who indicated that they are going to build a tower on a 40 acre land right in front of the complex where there is also a playground for the children.
CHP Istanbul Deputy Barış Yarkadaş went to the site, as the tension escalated, to side with the residents of the complex, he said “The company that indicated they bought the land from SİNPAŞ, is bullying the public. We are witnessing a million dollar bullying.”
To whom was it sold?
Yarkadaş also argued that there were allegations regarding the individuals who were saying they bought the land from SİNPAŞ, that they are the relatives of SİNPAŞ executives. CHP’s deputy suggested that the Capital Markets Board (SPK) should scrutinize this sale.
‘Their rights are being seized’
Yarkadaş reminded that 146 families have bought their apartments paying for the land piece including a playground, that the company is trying to seize, and added:
“The area that you see up ahead was the resting area for the 600 individuals that reside here. They have paid money for that green area when they bought the apartments. On that piece of land, the children would play, the teenagers would get together and socialize, the elderly would walk around midday and get some fresh air.
But one morning, they came face to face with the construction machinery owned by the company you see behind me. And they asked, ‘What are you doing here?’ The company that brought the machinery said, ‘This is our piece of land, not yours. We will build a tower here.’ In fact the residents were shocked more than they were devastated at first, because they were sold that green land as well when they were buying the apartments. But now the residents who paid for that land, and have been using it as a park for many years, cannot enter that area.”
They have taken it to the court
Yarkadaş stated that the residents and their lawyers have taken this incident to the court and added “They are committing murder here. They want to built two more towers on that green piece of land. The ones who object this are being attacked by pitbulls and taser guns.”
They are blinded by money
Yarkadaş stated that the people who are trying to materialize these million dollar projects have been blinded by money, and added “We are witnessing a million dollar bullying at the center of Istanbul.”
Emphasis on April 16th
Yarkadaş who listened to the citizens’ remarks who overheard the conversations between the officials, said:
“When the individuals who were trying to build towers on the green land unlawfully faced resistance, they told the workers they are employing without insurance, ‘Make haste, we have to finish this project by April 16th.’ This sentence alone shows whom they get this authority from. They are confessing that they will keep on with the unlawfulness until the referendum. They know that there isn’t a judge to stop them right now. They are aware that once the NO prevails at the ballot box, they will no longer be able to continue this unlawfulness. Thats why they are rushing.”
Yarkadaş pointed out that they will be solidarity with the complex and make efforts to preserve that green piece of land. Yarkadaş, along with CHP Ümraniye District Head Cafer Aktürk, has made a meeting with the residents who got attacked.
